LOS ANGELES - Victor Kenton is convinced he got a job with the federal public defender's office 34 years ago because his father was in the federal prison system. The people who interviewed him for the job felt sorry for him his dad being behind bars and all.

The thing is, his father wasn't an inmate. He was a prison warden.
