Sprinting to the End

The backlog of cases in the Riverside County court has made Judge Edward D. Webster look forward to his planned retirement at the end of the year. But in the meantime, the presiding judge of the criminal calendar has a list of rules he uses to push cases along quickly.

RIVERSIDE - No one ever told Superior Court Judge Edward D. Webster it would be easy.

When he agreed in January to supervise Riverside's criminal courts, Webster faced a crushing backlog of cases, with not enough lawyers, courtrooms or solutions.
