Going Swimmingly

Los Angeles County Judge Paul Gutman, known for simplyfying complicated civil issues, has attended a lot of retirement parties. But, at age 77, he says he never wants to have one of his own.

VAN NUYS - Judge Paul Gutman has served as master of ceremonies for so many judicial retirement parties he can predict what the honoree is going to say.

Inevitably, the retiree, clearing the lump in his throat, will tell the gathering of well-wishers that sitting on the bench has been "the greatest job."

For Gutman, 77, it's true.
