SAN JOSE - As a Republican, Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge Alfonso Fernandez's political past is quite different from that of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor. But he has a few things in common with her, including their Puerto Rican heritage and a belief that diversity in the judiciary is a good thing.
