SAN DIEGO - Born in Queens, N.Y., and raised in Great Neck, Karen S. Crawford received a lot of support from her parents - first generation Americans whose parents emigrated from Russia.
"My father was a product of the Depression," recalled Crawford, now sitting as a U.S. magistrate judge in San Diego. "He did whatever he could to build a life for his family."
