LANCASTER — Growing up, Judge William A. Crowfoot felt like an outsider. As a white kid, he attended grade school in Puerto Rico with mostly Hispanic classmates. At Haverford College in Pennsylvania, he was the Spanish-speaking exchange student among a majority of white classmates. Crowfoot’s sense of identity was, for a time, hard to trace. He was adopted, and later came out as a gay man.
