Bill to increase medical damages heads to floor

A state Senate bill that would increase how much victims and insurers get for medical damages passed an Assembly Judiciary Committee Tuesday on its way to a floor vote.

A state Senate bill that would increase medical damages payouts in personal injury cases passed the Assembly Judiciary Committee Tuesday on its way to a floor vote by week's end. Along the way, it's stirring fierce opposition from insurers and business groups, which say it would arbitrarily jack up settlements to benefit trial lawyers.
