SANTA ANA -- A federal judge on Tuesday appeared dissuaded by a Los Angeles law firm's nearly decade-long fight to recover $5.4 million in co-counsel fees from Michael J. Avenatti, questioning why the debt should take priority over the millions of dollars owed others.
