Split appeals panel upholds injunction favoring asylum seekers

A preliminary injunction stopping the federal government from barring asylum seekers from entering the United States at ports of entry was allowed to take effect after a split panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals found the government didn’t show a stay was necessary.

According to sources familiar with the case, the decision made Thursday will mostly affect asylum seekers who are currently in removal proceedings.
